The northern side of the Registan is closed by the Tilya-Kori madrasa, built between 1646 and 1660. It combined teaching rooms with the congregational mosque of the city, and its domed hall is painted in the kundal technique with lavish gilding, which gave the building its name of the gilded one. The facade is drawn out along the square and stands noticeably lower than the neighbouring madrasas.
