Gur-e-Amir is the tomb of Tamerlane (Timur), his sons and his grandsons, built in 1405. The famous ribbed turquoise dome is Samarkand's calling card; inside are a gilded cupola with muqarnas niches and gravestones of jade. One of the masterpieces of Timurid architecture.
