Central Park runs as a green strip between the Futian and Luohu districts and serves Shenzhen as its main breathing space in the middle of the business core. It was laid out in the nineties on former rice fields, keeping the channel of the small Xinzhou River inside. Most of the area is given over to open lawns where people come at weekends with balls and kites, while banyans and thickets of bamboo rise along the edges. The towers of the business quarter stand directly above the treetops, among them the block of the AVIC aircraft corporation, which is why the park has given the city its most widely reproduced view. Entry is free and around the clock, and the walk from Shaoniangong metro station takes about ten minutes.
