This bascule bridge across the Bolshaya Neva links Palace Embankment with Vasilyevsky Island and was built between 1912 and 1916 to a design by the engineer Andrey Pshenitsky. The central span opens as two leaves, and those raised wings against the floodlit Spit make the most widely reproduced image of the white nights. Night openings happen only during the navigation season, roughly from the middle of April to the end of November.
