Bawean Island lies in the Java Sea and belongs to Gresik Regency in East Java. Its shoreline alternates between sandy stretches, small coves and rocky outcrops, with clear water over the shallows. Among the island’s nature routes, Tanjung Gaang is known for broad limestone formations above the sea; visitors generally reach it by local boat and continue on foot over uneven rock. The coastal scenery is best explored in calm conditions, when reef edges and small inlets are visible. Strong waves can make access to the water unsafe. Bawean remains a quiet island destination with small settlements and limited transport, so trips between the coast, villages and harbours require planning. Most services and the main port are around Sangkapura, a practical base for arranging transport across the island. Bring drinking water, sun protection and shoes with good grip, and ask local residents about sea conditions and boat access before setting out. These rocky stretches are not developed urban beaches; visitors should take care, follow local guidance and leave no litter.
