Kazakhstan Hotel

The Kazakhstan Hotel is a tower of twenty-five floors on Dostyk Avenue, raised more than a hundred metres and crowned with a golden crown of pointed teeth. It was finished in 1977, and for many years this was the tallest building in the city. The structure was calculated for severe earthquakes, so the block was given a rigid frame and a massive base with wide canopies. The silhouette with its crown found its way onto postcards and stamps and still serves as one of the symbols of Almaty. The building works to this day for its original purpose, and the lower floors are occupied by cafes and shops.
