North Gate of Dali

Attraction·Дали·China

The North Gate closes the main axis of the old town of Dali, which is held from the south by a gate of the same kind near Cangshan mountain. The walls were laid in dark stone and brick under the Ming dynasty, when the town was rebuilt after its annexation to the empire, while the pavilion above the gate with its two tiers of roofs was restored only at the end of the twentieth century. Through the arch begins Fuxing Street, which leads to the market and the temples. The side ramps can be climbed to walk along the crest of the wall, from where the tiled roofs of the quarters and the ridge of Cangshan are in view. At the gate begins the road to Xizhou and the villages of the Bai people.
