Cetho Temple stands on the slopes of Mount Lawu in Gumeng village, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java. It is a Hindu temple complex that remains a place of worship. The sanctuary rises in terraces along the hillside; the sequence is commonly interpreted as a spiritual path from the outside world toward purification and liberation. Upper levels contain altars, stone gateways and carved figures, including an image of the goddess Saraswati. Cetho differs from older lowland temples of Java and reflects the later Hindu period, when religious sites were built high in the mountains. Its elevation and cool climate make the visit distinct from temple routes in the cities. The road passes tea fields and mountain villages, and weather can change quickly: mist or rain may obscure the views, so allow extra time. As this is an active sacred site, follow local guidance, respect worshippers and stay outside restricted areas. Cetho can be combined with a visit to nearby Sukuh Temple and a drive through the Mount Lawu highlands.
