The monument to Alisher Navoi is set in the National Park of Tashkent, which bears the name of the poet. The bronze figure in a robe and with a staff stands under a round pavilion: eight white columns with carved capitals carry a ribbed dome, and from within the dome is painted with a yellow geometric rosette and inscriptions running round it. A broad staircase with lamps and planted with trees leads up to the pavilion, so that the monument is visible from far off along the axis of the avenue. In the evening the dome is lit from inside and reads as a lantern above the dark park. Navoi is considered the founder of Uzbek literature, and this is his chief monument in the country.
