The clock tower rose above the street not far from the Amir Timur square in 1947. The mechanism was brought from East Prussia as a trophy, and it was suggested that it be installed by a watchmaker who had gone through the war in those parts. The brick shaft with an openwork grille and an open belfry at the top combines the European scheme of a clock tower with eastern ornament. For the two thousandth anniversary of Tashkent a second, almost identical tower was built beside it, and now the chimes stand as a pair. In the evening the tower is lit, and the striking of the clock is heard the whole length of the avenue.
