Bacolod lies on the north-west coast of Negros and serves as the provincial capital of Negros Occidental. It grew as a trading and civic centre for the sugar-producing region and became a chartered city in 1938. Today, a busy modern centre sits beside older public buildings and residential neighbourhoods with the everyday pace of the Visayas.
Central landmarks
