The Dragon Bridge is thrown across the Han River in the very centre of Da Nang and was opened in the spring of 2013 for the anniversary of the liberation of the city. The steel arch, almost seven hundred metres long, was made in the shape of a golden dragon that stretches along the spans and throws its head up over the western bank. In the evenings the structure is floodlit, with the colour shifting from green to orange and back, and at weekends the dragon breathes a jet of fire from its mouth and then a jet of water. The whole Bach Dang waterfront gathers to watch it, and traffic on the bridge is closed for the length of the show. The rest of the time it is an ordinary six-lane city road.
