Hang Luon Cave and Lagoon

Attraction·Халонг·Vietnam

Hang Luon is a low through-grotto in the rock of Bo Hon island, by which one gets into a closed lagoon in the middle of Ha Long Bay. It can be passed only under oars, since motor boats are not allowed into the tunnel and visitors are transferred to bamboo sampans and kayaks. Inside the water stands mirror-smooth, the limestone walls rise tens of metres, and in the rainy season the summits are drowned in mist. Macaques climb about the thickets above the water, long accustomed to boats and begging for food. The vault of the grotto is low, and at high tide the passage is sometimes closed, so the route depends on the water level.
