Zhanyuan Garden

One of the oldest gardens of Nanjing: the estate was laid out under the Ming dynasty, in Qing times served as the residence of the governor of Jiangsu province, and in the 1850s housed the administration of the Taiping state. The plan is typical of the gardens of Jiangnan, with two ponds, artificial rocks, galleries and pavilions joined by round gateways. A museum of Taiping history now works on the grounds.
