The Trinity Izmailovsky Cathedral is one of the largest domed churches in St Petersburg (architect Vasily Stasov, 1828-1835). Five blue star-strewn domes rise above the southern part of the centre; the cathedral was built for the Izmailovsky Life Guards Regiment. It is visible from the embankment of the Fontanka, which gives the classic view across one of the city's bridges.
