Water Tower in Zaraysk

Attraction·Зарайск·Russia

The water tower in Zaraysk was built in 1914 a few blocks from the kremlin. The octagonal brick structure about thirty metres high supplied water to the centre of the district town. It worked for its intended purpose until the seventies, after which it was left without an owner for a long time. In the 2010s the building was restored and a viewing platform was arranged at the top, from which the kremlin, the floodplain of the Osyotr and the surrounding villages can be seen. The dark red brick silhouette tapering upward has become the second recognisable sign of the town after the kremlin walls.
