Church of the Resurrection on Torgovaya Square

The Church of the Resurrection stands on Torgovaya Square in Suzdal and serves as its main vertical. The summer church was built in 1720 on the site of a wooden one that had burnt down, and was deliberately made sparing in decoration. Beside it rises a bell tower with an octagon and a concave gilded spire, which in Suzdal is called a pipe. Its winter pair is the neighbouring Kazan Church of 1739, and together they form the usual local ensemble of a cold and a warm church. The square before the church is paved with cobbles, and the view of this silhouette from the trading rows has become one of the most recognisable pictures of Suzdal.
