The main museum of Guangxi gathers the antiquities of southern China, from stone tools and early ceramics to bronzes of the Han period. Its pride is a huge collection of bronze drums, which were cast in these parts and used in rites for more than two thousand years. The halls also show bells, ritual vessels and finds connected with the southern branch of the Maritime Silk Road. After a recent rebuilding, part of the halls was given over to multimedia panoramas with reconstructions of ancient voyages. The museum stands in a park not far from the centre of Nanning, and admission to it is free.
