The National Museum of the Philippines–Cebu occupies the historic Aduana Building beside the port and Plaza Independencia. Its long facade and museum sign make it easy to recognize. Architect William Edward Parsons designed the building, which was completed in 1910 as Cebu’s customs house to serve trade between the island and neighbouring communities. Aduana later housed the President’s official residence in the Visayas before being restored for museum use.

The site shows how a single building’s role changed with the city: from a customs office in the port district to a public institution introducing visitors to regional history and culture. The National Museum opened its Cebu component museum here in 2023. Exhibitions and visitor arrangements can change, so check the museum’s official website before going.

The museum is near Fort San Pedro and other historic sites in central Cebu, making it easy to include in a walking route. Even from outside, visitors can notice the building’s long proportions, window rhythm and former customs-house details. Allow time for the galleries: learning about Aduana and its exhibitions adds more context than a quick stop at the facade.
