Monkasel Submarine Monument

Monumen Kapal Selam, widely known as Monkasel, is a museum and monument in central Surabaya devoted to Indonesian naval history. Its main exhibit is KRI Pasopati 410, a genuine submarine that once served with the Indonesian Navy; the display is the vessel itself, not a replica. The name Monkasel is a shortened form of Monumen Kapal Selam. The preserved interior gives a sense of the crew’s confined working and living spaces, while the exhibition areas explain the submarine’s service and the technology of underwater fleets. From outside, visitors can take in the hull, conning tower and unmistakable outline of a naval vessel. The museum stands on Pemuda Street near the city’s commercial centre and public spaces, making it easy to include in a walking route through Surabaya.
