Zhangye Danxia Rainbow Mountains

A geopark in the foothills of the Qilian Shan west of Zhangye, where layers of sandstone and clay are stained red, orange and yellow by iron oxides. The rock accumulated over tens of millions of years, was then crumpled and lifted, and erosion laid bare the striped slopes. Viewing platforms are laid out across the site, with park buses running between them.
