Zaraysk Kremlin

The brick fortress of 1528 to 1531, built under Vasili III on the defensive line of the Oka, is the only kremlin in the Moscow region to survive in full. Its walls form an almost regular rectangle with seven towers, three of which carry gateways. Inside stand St Nicholas Cathedral of the seventeenth century and the Cathedral of St John the Baptist of the early twentieth, while a walkway for visitors runs along the walls.
