Epiphany Cathedral of the Kostroma Kremlin

The Epiphany Cathedral stands on the high bank of the Volga, in the Central Park of Kostroma, where the kremlin was until the thirties. The stone winter cathedral with a bell tower was raised here at the end of the eighteenth century to a design by the Kostroma architect Stepan Vorotilov. In 1934 the whole kremlin ensemble was taken apart, and a park was laid out on the cleared ground. Rebuilding went on from 2015 to 2023 with private money and repeated the former appearance from drawings and old surveys. The bell tower about sixty-four metres high is again the tallest structure in the city and is visible from the Volga steamers.
