South Mosque of Urumqi

The congregational mosque of the Erdaoqiao quarter, next to the International Grand Bazaar. The building follows Chinese tradition, with tiled slopes, eaves painted blue and green and a small gate tower carrying a crescent in place of the usual minaret. The mosque is still in use and serves as the centre of the Muslim community in the southern part of the city.
