Kalon Minaret

The "Great" minaret, 47 m tall, built in 1127 under Arslan Khan. The one building in Bukhara that Genghis Khan ordered to be spared, so struck was he by its beauty. Fourteen bands of brick ornament, no two of them alike. It once served as a beacon for traders crossing the desert.
