Apsara Playing the Pipa statue

A sculpture on a roundabout in the centre of Dunhuang that has become the emblem of the town. It repeats the famous motif of the Mogao cave paintings, in which a heavenly apsara plays the pipa, holding the lute behind her back and arching in a dance. The figure is raised on a high pedestal and is visible from the main streets.
