Pura Ulun Danu Beratan

Pura Ulun Danu Beratan stands beside Lake Beratan in Bali’s Bedugul highlands. The water is part of the temple setting: from the shore, tiered meru roofs rise above the lake, while clouds and mountain slopes form a changing backdrop. The complex is dedicated to Dewi Danu, associated with lakes, rivers and water. It is both a familiar landscape of Bali and an active place within the island’s Hindu tradition. Close to the entrance, look at the gateways, stone guardians and architectural details; then step back toward the shore to see how the buildings relate to the lake. The highland climate is cooler than Bali’s coastal areas, and a light layer is useful if you plan to linger by the water.
