Regent Theater (Cine Palace)

The Regent Theater is a historic cinema building on J. M. Basa Street in Iloilo’s old business district. Its façade still carries the Regent name and an ornamental oval marked “Cine 1928,” recalling the period when films were shown here. The venue was previously known as Cine Palace; it was among the city’s early cinemas and formed part of the commercial life of Calle Real. Today the building is chiefly an architectural landmark on a walk through the historic street. It is easiest to view from across the road, where the full façade reveals the arcaded lower level, balconies and central decorative panel. Regent stands among old shops and commercial buildings, so its story makes most sense as part of the former business district rather than as an isolated museum. The street remains busy, with shops, public transport and pedestrians nearby. Choose a safe spot on the pavement, stay out of traffic and keep street wires and vehicles in mind when framing a photograph. The interior and current use of the premises may change, so do not assume regular access to the former auditorium without checking first. Regent fits naturally into a short walk along Calle Real with Iloilo’s other historic façades; allow more time if you plan to explore the wider city center.
