Atyrau Pedestrian Bridge

The Atyrau pedestrian bridge is thrown across the Ishim in the northern part of Astana and joins the residential quarters on the two banks. A wide deck and a red cycle lane take the place of a roadway here, and a wave-like canopy of perforated steel rhombuses covers the whole length above. By day this lattice casts a net of shadows on the deck, and at sunset a golden glow stands inside the canopy from the low sun. From a distance the bridge reads as a long silvery wave lying on squat supports. The walk takes a quarter of an hour and is a convenient way of reaching the river out of the dense built-up area.
