The imperial palace complex in the centre of Beijing, home to 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties from 1420 to 1912. Some 980 buildings spread over 720,000 sq m make it the largest surviving palace in the world and a UNESCO site. Golden roofs, red walls, white marble terraces and carved dragon ramps.
